Many of us saw this as another round of economic impact payments to help us provide for ourselves and our families. There was also a huge effort in this act to ensure that Americans have access to health insurance for their medical needs. We will break down the highlights for you.
As of April 1st, eligible individuals can receive COBRA, dental, and vision benefits for themselves and their families at no cost.
How do I know if I qualify?
You will be notified from your previous employer no later than May 31st, 2021 via mail if you qualify for assistance.
What if I have been paying COBRA premiums before this act?
Previous premium payments that you have made, are not reimbursable or included in this relief program. You will have the opportunity to have future premium payments paid in full from your previous employer until your COBRA is exhausted or until 9.30.2021. (Whichever duration is shorter.)
What if I did not take COBRA during my 60-day window due to the cost?
If you declined to take COBRA when you were first eligible, you will now have an opportunity to activate this coverage along with dental and vision benefits that were offered during your employment. To qualify, you must meet the standards of an Assistance Eligible Individual and will be notified by your previous employer.
What do I need to do to get this relief?
No action is needed to be taken. Employers are mandated to contact you via mail. This program is designed to offset the costs of COBRA, dental, and vision premiums. It does not extend the length of your coverage This payment relief program however is set to expire as of 9.30.2021. After this time, all individuals are responsible for the total premium cost of their benefits.
